Junior Open Water Diver (JOWD)

Welcome to the IDDA Junior Open Water Diver course!

Our Junior Open Water Diver course is the perfect introduction for all young divers who want to learn how to dive and are not yet 15 years old.

During the course, you will learn the fundamental skills you need for safe diving. In the theory sessions, you will learn about diving equipment, the basic principles of diving, and important underwater safety procedures.

Of course, you will also spend plenty of time in the water developing and improving your practical diving skills. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you will learn how to correctly use your diving equipment, how to safely enter and exit the water, and how to behave underwater. You will start in a swimming pool or under similar comfortable and controlled conditions before continuing your training in a lake or open water.

The maximum permitted diving depth for an IDDA Junior Open Water Diver depends on the age of the diver:

  • 10–11 years: maximum depth 12 metres

  • 12–15 years: maximum depth 18 metres

Junior Open Water Divers may not dive alone or exclusively with another junior diver. They must be accompanied by a suitably qualified diver holding the “Dive with Children” qualification or by a professional diver at Divemaster level or higher.

After successfully completing the course, you will receive your IDDA Junior Open Water Diver certification. With your certification, you can visit dive sites around the world and discover the beauty of the underwater world – always observing the maximum depth applicable to your age and the required supervision.

We look forward to accompanying you on your diving adventure.
